Collage Environment

For my project, I decided to use lyrics from the the musical Rock around the Block. The lyrics from the song "Nifty Fifties" that I chose was Take me right back to the nifty fifties. Right before I started brainstorming topics for my project, I was talking to my mom on the phone and she was telling me about how my little sister is in that musical at her school. So, since I had that musical on my mind I thought that it would be cool to create a photo of a date scene from the 50s. Dating today is so lame compared to in the 50s. People used to go on fun dates back in the day. There was no texting or Tinder. When I think of a date in the 50s, I think of people swing dancing to upbeat music playing from a jukebox in a diner. I also picture a couple sharing a milkshake. This is how I came up with the image that I created. First, I used the spot healing brush to make the back wall into a completely red wall. Then, I inserted a photograph of a picture frame with the name of a diner. I blurred the picture I inserted into the back of the wall to have it fit in with the other photographs hanging on the wall since they were also blurry. It took me a long time to match the perspective, so that the frame looked as though it was actually having on the wall at that angle. I played with the lighting since the original photo of the people dancing had a purple glow on them. They were also originally facing the opposite way. I had to flip them to make it look as though the light from the environment that the people were in was reflecting off them. It took a long time to perfect extract the dancers from their background. I also had to add a shadow beneath them, which was challenging to figure out how to do. I also inserted a milkshake and jukebox into the photo of the diner. I blurred them to also help them blend in. Additionally, I added shadows to both of them. I tried to match all the lightings the best I could to make the image look seamless. In the end, I think it turned out well. I'm proud of my final product and I wish I grew up in the 50s!

Facebook Makes Efforts to Improve Ad Transparency

Have you ever wondered why certain advertisements are displayed on your Facebook News Feed? Recently, Facebook has been striving to alter the way advertisers control their custom audience lists. A custom audience list refers to the contact records advertisers transfer to Facebook to target advertisements. These uploaded lists include: phone numbers, email addresses, and other data which use algorithms to cross reference information against profiles. The goal of this action is for Facebook to provide more transparency to their users and explain why specific ads appear on their News Feed. Starting on July 2 nd , advertisers will have to specifically identify the source of an audience’s information at the time they utilize a custom audience list. When uploading these lists, advertisers will be required to state whether the information was gathered directly from customers, directly from agencies, or from a combination of both customers and data providers or agencies.
